Vladimir Putin took office as President of Russia after taking the oath of office in the Grand Kremlin Palace. The elected head of state will be in office for another six years – until 2030.

Some time before the event, Vladimir Putin was brought to the Grand Kremlin Palace. In the main hall solemnly brought the state flag, the standard of the president, the Constitution of Russia and the sign of the president – a golden cross with a double-headed eagle (emblem of the country) on a chain. On the back of the cross is a medallion engraved with the motto "Benefit, Honour and Glory".

After the inauguration ceremony, the national anthem was played and the standard of the head of state was hoisted over the dome of the presidential residence in the Kremlin. Vladimir Putin made an address to the citizens. He thanked Russians in all regions.
"I assure you that from now on the interests and security of the people of Russia will be above all for me," the President said.

The inauguration was followed by a parade of the presidential regiment. Vladimir Putin greeted the servicemen, after which they began a solemn march. 

Then, the head of state ascended the steps of the Annunciation Cathedral. He attended a thanksgiving prayer service, which was performed by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.

Immediately after the inauguration of the president, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order to resign from the government, as is required by law. 

The presidential election in Russia was held from 15 to 17 March. The turnout across the country was a record 77.44 per cent. Vladimir Putin, according to official data, received 87.28 per cent of the vote. Nikolay Kharitonov, a member of the presidium of the CPRF Central Committee, won 4.31 per cent. State Duma deputy speaker Vladislav Davankov, nominated by the New People party, got 3.85 per cent, while LDPR leader Leonid Slutsky got 3.2 per cent.
